Ellis Food Pantry

What is the Ellis Food Boxes/Pantry?
One of the most successful projects in the community of Ellis is the Ellis Food Boxes and pantry.  The Founder, Leonard Schoenberger and the Community Foundation of Ellis redirected this project as a joint venture to better the lives of many local citizens.  The main goal is to help hunger insecurities of families in our community. Any Ellis resident who feels they are in need of food qualifies for a box of food on posted open pantry nights. The pantry is located at 210 Madison Street behind Casey's General Store. Any time the pantry is closed and food is in need, food can be obtained by calling Schoenberger at 726-4917 or 726-1278 or stop by the Alliance Office, 820 Washington, Ellis.

Leonard Schoenberger, director, with the help of his assistant directors, Althea Groff and Millie Winterscheidt, along with a committee of local citizens, 100 plus volunteers including many organizations, businesses and personal donors throughout the year, are the heart and soul of this program. Volunteers help sort and collect food, while others help with special holiday deliveries and boxing up the food.

In connection with the Kansas Foodbank Warehouse and the food collected in Ellis, our Ellis Food pantry distributed 7,772 pounds of food to Ellis families last year.  This October over 1,700 pounds of food was collected during Trick- or- Treat So Others Can Eat from generous donors in our community to help restock the pantry.

How Can You Donate?
Non-perishable items can be dropped off anytime at 808 Monroe.  Monetary donations are always appreciated and can be given at Golden Belt Bank, Equity Bank, both of Ellis, or dropped off at the Community Foundation at the Alliance Office, 820 Washington. Please make checks payable to: Ellis Food Boxes.
We want to thank everyone for your generous donations. By giving to Ellis’ local Food Boxes & Pantry, all of your donations stay in the community!
